The Sudoku Packing Method, But Make It Chic

There’s a very specific kind of woman I always notice when I travel. She’s not overpacked. She’s not stressed. And every single day her outfits look elevated yet effortless. That’s the energy behind the viral Sudoku Packing Method and while the internet is calling it a trend, as a stylist, I’ll tell you that this is how well-dressed women have always packed. It’s not about having more. It’s about having the right pieces that work together in multiple ways. Think of your suitcase like a system, not a collection. Every piece should mix, layer, and repeat without looking repetitive. This is exactly how I pack for clients and myself when we want to look polished without overthinking it. Here’s how to do it yourself for your next trip.

Look 1: The Travel Day Uniform

The goal here is simple: comfort that still reads polished. You want to look like someone who has somewhere important to be, even if you’re just boarding Group 4. To achieve this look, style an oversized blazer that's structured yet slightly relaxed. Pair it with a fitted cotton tank or tee for breathability, leggings or relaxed trousers, and white sneakers. Finish the look with oversized sunnies and a great carryall leather tote.

Tara’s Style Edit: Wear your bulkiest pieces on the plane. It saves packing space and gives your outfit structure instantly. A blazer over activewear is the fastest way to look pulled together.

Look 2: The Day-to-Night Shift

This is where the Sudoku method really works. One base outfit, two completely different moods. Style your fitted tee or tank with a silk, satin or even cotton poplin midi skirt with a thin belt. Bring flats for daytime and swap those out for heels at night. Bring the blazer along to drape over your shoulders if you need something to keep you warm.

Tara’s Style Edit: When packing, prioritize pieces that can shift with one change. Shoes and layers are your easiest way to create a second outfit without adding anything extra to your suitcase.

Look 3: The Elevated Casual Repeat

This is the outfit you’ll wear more than once and no one will notice. It’s relaxed, classic, and endlessly reworkable. Style an oversized button-down shirt in white or light blue with straight leg or relaxed denim, minimal sandals or flats and your leather tote.

Tara’s Style Edit: Repeat your outfit, but change the styling. Roll the sleeves differently, half-tuck the shirt, switch the shoe, add a belt and watch your outfit transform into a completely new look.
