How to Style Burgundy
As we move into that in-between period where it's not quite summer but not fully fall, I focus on trans-seasonal dressing: creating outfits that feel seasonally appropriate now but can easily evolve with a few styling changes. If you're looking for colors that will make your wardrobe feel instantly more elevated for the transitioning season, start with burgundy. Not only is it rich, sophisticated, and surprisingly versatile but pairing it with unexpected fresh tones can take you into fashion-forward territory without trying too hard. Here are three of my favorite ways to style burgundy right now.
Look 1: Burgundy and Blue
Burgundy doesn't have to feel overly traditional or reserved. One of my favorite unexpected ways to wear it is with a soft blue, French blue, or powder blue. The contrast between a deep wine shade and a lighter, cooler blue feels modern and sophisticated. Add denim, and the entire look becomes more relaxed and wearable.
Try a Burgundy blazer or lightweight sweater layered over a soft blue button-down or blouse with Classic straight-leg jeans, chocolate brown loafers and gold jewelry. The result is a refined, put-together look that offers sophistication with ease.
Tara's Style Edit: Think about contrast in temperature, not just contrast in color. Burgundy is warm and rich, while blue brings a cooler element to the outfit. That contrast keeps the look from feeling too heavy and makes burgundy feel fresh enough for transitional weather.
Look 2: Burgundy and Red
For an effortlessly polished look, pair burgundy with bright red. The bold contrast feels unexpected and feminine and you can ground the look with camel or brown trousers, a skirt, or even denim.
Tara's Style Edit: Use lighter neutrals to extend the life of darker colors. When paired exclusively with rich red tones, burgundy can easily feel fall-specific; this pairing creates a more formal feel perfect for day-to-night looks.
Look 3: Burgundy and Blush
This combination is one of my favorite ways to create a rich, luxurious-looking outfit without relying on black. A soft blush, dusty pink, or muted rose works beautifully because it connects the warmth of burgundy while adding lightness. Opt for a burgundy silk blouse with a blush or dusty rose trouser and a cream handbag and shoe.
